An exhibiton of Northside Artists

Opening Friday 17th April, 6pm Running April 18th – 19th, 10am – 4pm

Once everyone has found love, they want space…

Is space what allows one to breathe? In both a relationship and a physical sense… Systole and diastole. The penumbra between in breath and outbreath. The swimmer comes up for breath between cliché waves. Love is gravity… Because we’re physical we tend to gravitate towards physicality. The physical is held together by clichés. Physicality is a cliché, is the sum total of countless clichés. It involves mind-boggling amounts of repetition; sticking to the known. The artists represented in this exhibition are gaining or attempting to gain escape velocity from the known into the otherness. Referring to quantum physics in order to explain some obscure philosophical point is fast becoming a cliché, in itself. However, ahem, quantum physics explains that the physical is composed more of space than of any solid thing. So maybe reality itself is a zillion subatomic grandmas repeating themselves endlessly as they knit superstrings into thirteen dimensions of time and Ahhhh space. Ahhhh Space is an art exhibition of work by local emerging and established Darebin, Melbourne and International artists. Mediums include works on paper, sculpture, video, sound and performance. Artists are Mike York, Anna Topalidou, Kirralee Wishart, Mari Adams, Alanna Clarkson, Kiah Robinson-Retter, Georgina Ross, Jess Redlich, Christian Vine, Zachary Daniel, Kurt Medenbach and Ross Kingston The opening night will feature live analogue soundscapes by local Darebin resident Jake Blood and Melbourne producers Ricardo and Augustus. Site-specific performance by Celeste MacLeod. celestial body Celestial Body, Woodcut, Mari Frith Adams (2015)
